Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. Heavier shedding often comes 2 to 3 months after a shock: exhaustion, dieting, childbirth, fever, stress, or simply autumn. It settles on its own, and the right care helps you through it. Shedding that persists, or thinning patches, need a medical opinion.
Wash as often as you need: washing does not make hair fall out, you only see the hairs that had already come loose. Massage the scalp with your fingertips without rubbing the lengths.

Choose by situation: a 'reactional' lotion for temporary shedding after a shock or at the change of season, a 'chronic' treatment or a serum such as Aminexil for shedding that settles in. Apply to dry or damp scalp, massage, do not rinse, for at least 3 months.

Avoid very tight hairstyles, daily heat straightening and harsh brushing. Enough protein and iron in your diet matters: iron deficiency is a common cause of hair loss in women.
