Advice
Atopic skin has a barrier that holds water poorly: it feels tight, itches and flares up in red patches. Skincare does not replace medical treatment during a flare, but used properly every day it makes flares less frequent. Three steps: wash gently, moisturise generously, calm the itch.
Use a cleansing oil or a soap-free, lipid-rich gel, with lukewarm water, in a short 5 to 10 minute shower. Pat dry without rubbing.

Apply an emollient balm or cream all over within 3 minutes of showering, while the skin is still slightly damp. Once or twice a day, even when the skin is fine: that is what spaces out flares.

Use a soothing spray or cream on itchy areas, and reapply whenever the urge returns. Keep nails short: scratching keeps eczema going.
